What To Say To This Poor Lady? Pilates Help

Do you ever see someone and just want to show them a little something to help them out?  I am quite sure this lady is either in pain or very tired and quite possibly , both. Hence the Starbucks.

Let’s be clear- I love coffee .  So, I am not claiming a ‘give up the coffee’ blog.

But, this posture is a big indicator for Osteoporosis among other things.  I wanted to show her Karena Thek Lineback’s OsteoPilates book I had stashed in my bag.  Did she know that high levels of caffeine ( 3 or more cups of coffee a day ) promotes bone loss? Maybe she was getting a green tea or black tea instead, which have less of an impact and has surprisingly great benefits. I wanted to let her know she was crushing her insides! I wanted to let her know she was robbing herself of oxygen by limiting her breathing capacity. I wanted her to know the power of breathe.   And just at this moment, I feel so bad for not speaking up and taking a picture instead.  I do. But, I couldn’t even catch her glance to make eye contact and even if I did,  what do you say? “Hi, I noticed you have horrible posture and clearly you must want to change?” I thought about one simple thing I could have shared with her in that moment that could have let her know there was another way.

What would you have done?

I Ask Random People About Pilates

Be careful when you come to my house and try to sell me something. I might just turn the camera on and ask you about Pilates. Recently I have been on a quest to step outside and ask what the general population knows about Pilates. As far as we have come with the knowledge of Pilates- people STILL misunderstand Pilates.

The guy from Texas says his dad would ‘kick his a**’ if he found out he did Pilates. Show me that guy . . . PLEASE. Give me an hour with him. What would you tell these guys about Pilates?

Does Angelina Jolie Really Do Pilates?

Fine. I’ll admit it. I’m a short, middle aged mom who struggles to keep a decent jean size. My gams look more like a hedgehog than a giraffe but one thing is for sure – I don’t envy Angelina’s neck and shoulder pains. How do I know she has neck pain? One look at this picture is all it takes.

Angelina’s shoulders are so rounded and unstable it is downright scary.

I am quite sure growing up in the modeling industry has a big part to do with her current posture, but word is, she does Pilates. In fact, a few years ago, she was in the news when she was playing her kids Nintendo DS. The article from Fitsugar.com states she ‘virtually mastered’ the game. That’s a shame.

Of course, anybody who played Laura Croft could do the exercises. But did anyone tell her she needs to strengthen her trapezius, lats and rear delts? Or do they give her lip service because she is Angelina Jolie?

If Angelina came to see me, I would have her go through scapula protraction and retraction (as in this video on About.com ) I would talk with her about rib cage placement, I would have her do Open Chest Expansion and The Long Box Arm Series just to name a few. I would tell her to spend some time on a foam roller and take some cues from Lynda Lippins new mp3.
